Hacktool:Win32/Keygen is a rogue key generator and software piracy tool that uses social engineering to trick users into thinking they’re getting a legitimate product key. This malware generates fake serial numbers for various Windows applications, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, among others.

The Win32/Keygen malware family has been around for a while now, as it was initially spotted by the Microsoft Malware Protection Center on July 16, 2009. Hacktool:Win32/Keygen has been used in mass spam campaigns, mostly to spread the Win32/Keygen.E worm that uses backdoors to spread fake activation keys for popular software.

The Internet can be a very dangerous place. There are so many different options in the world of technology and computer repair that it can be difficult to know which ones are actually necessary. Because of this, it can be argued that, unlike what many think nowadays, the biggest danger on the Internet isn’t fake news; it’s quite possibly fake or unnecessary software.

Many of the more aggressively marketed versions of needless software offer hard disk defragmentation. Although defragmentation is an important element of computing, most people are generally unaware that their operating system already offers this service. It is generally unnecessary to utilize a third-party app for it if you are an experienced computer user. On the other hand, novice computer users may be looking for these types of tools to make computer optimization easier. In such a case, they should consider using a reliable application to optimize their system performance. That is why research and reliance on legitimate programs are important.

Fake defragging has been around for a long time in the PC world, and unfortunately, it’s not going away anytime soon. There are many fake defragging products out there that promise you high-quality service with no strings attached. Don’t get fooled by these fake programs.

Makop Ransomware is a file-locking Trojan which appends an extension to the files on the compromised computer and demands to pay a ransom in exchange for the decryption key. The encryption routine is supposed to make it impossible for users to access their files without the aforementioned key, but in reality, the Trojan is not that efficient.

#MakopRansomware is generally distributed via spam email or repacked software. It also arrives as a payload for the trojan downloader Makop.exe or as a secondary payload with Trojan-PSW.Win32.Qhost.gen. When delivered by email, the Trojan arrives within an attachment that contains a Microsoft Word document file (.DOC) that has been corrupted using a macro to hide the Makop Ransomware payload. Makop encrypts many file types, including ones with the following extensions: .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, .odt, .ods, .txt, .rtf, .wb2, .123, .wps, and .pdf.
